Snowmobile FAQs

Q: How old do you have to be to drive a snowmobile?

A: Operators need to be 16 y.o. with a valid driver's license. Operators under 21 years old need to be accompanied by a parent or responsible person over 21 years old. Groups of minors may be turned away at our discretion unless accompanied by a parent. Passengers should be at least 3 y.o. and be willing to wear a full face helmet. For our guest's safety, our guides use their discretion and years of experience when determining the ability of a driver to continue safely on the tour.

Q: Is there a weight limit on the snowmobiles?

A: Combined weight on the snowmobiles should be less than 375 lbs for the suspension to work properly. Book 2 machines if necessary.

Q: How big are the groups?

A: We have no minimum on snowmobile groups. You could have a private tour! But we do limit the tours to 4-5 machines per guide and you may start out with a group of 8 and 2 guides. For group rates of 9 snowmobiles or more, email jenny@alpinezipline.com

Q: Can myself/child/mother-in-law ride with a guide?

A: We have seats available to ride with our fantastic guides. These need to be booked in advance and are limited to 2 seats per every 8 machines booked on 1 tour.

Q: What kind of machines do you have?

A: We ride 2006 -2009 Polaris, Arctic Cat and Ski Doo snowmobiles with big comfy double seats, heated hand grips, backrests and storage pockets. Engine sizes range from 380cc to 750cc. The guides strategically place guests on certain machines depending upon sizes and abilities, so you may not be able to choose for yourself.

Q: How fast do we go?

A: Our experienced guides cater to our guests but with safety first. Trail speed through the State Park is posted at 25 mph and we share the trail with other snowmobilers, so common sense has to prevail. In National Forest there are more open areas where those that are comfortable and confident can pick up the pace. We try our best to group families together, as well as single riders, but keep in mind this is a scenic, outdoor adventure with inherent dangers, not a race.

Q: What do I wear?

A: For your snowmobile tour, please wear ski clothing (gloves or mittens, jacket, snow pants), warm boots and a neck gator or scarf. For $5 we rent insulated snowmobile suits, jackets, snow pants and boots in the office on a first come, first serve basis. Sizes range from kids 8 to Adult XXXL.

Q: Do we wear helmets?

A: Helmets are provided and have shields so no need for a hat, but balaclavas or helmet hats can keep the wind out. We sell reasonably priced balaclavas, knit hats and bandanas in the office.

Q: When and where do we meet for the tours?

A: We meet 1/2 hour prior to your scheduled tour time in the office at 41 Main Street. If you are late we most likely will not be able to hold up the tour, since we run the trips back to back every hour. The cancellation policy will apply if you arrive late for your tour. We will transport you to our trailhead at the Indian Head Resort.

Q: Can we bring cameras?

A: Most definitely bring a camera or video camera. There will be scenic stops along the way. Your guide can help you capture the moment.

Q: Can we bring snacks and drinks?

A: The snowmobiles have a small trunk in the back for your drink with a screw top or snacks.

Q: Do we need to sign a waiver?

A: Each participant is required to sign a release of liability. Riders and drivers under the age of 18 will need a parent's signature. Alpine Adventures does not share customer's information with other agencies.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Click here for guided snowmobile pricing.

Q: How often do you go out?

A: See our Book Now page for current snowmobile schedules. We are at the mercy of the snowfall, but if all is going well, we ride 7 days per week in the winter season, just about every hour starting at 9 am with the last tour at 4 pm.

POLICIES

Cancellation Policy

Since we have a short snowmobile season here in New England and spaces are limited, reservations are pre-paid. In accordance with our 72 hr cancellation policy, if you cancel within 72 hours of your tour, you will not be refunded. Time and effort goes into re-booking spaces and a small administrative fee may be deducted at our discretion for cancellations that are refunded outside of 72 hours. Late arrivals will also be responsible for full payment since we cannot hold up others in your group nor push up the tours since they are booked back to back. If trail and snow conditions do not coincide with safe snowmobiling, we will cancel the tour and give you as much notice as possible. In this case, you would not be charged. Please provide a reliable mobile phone number or email when booking.

Drug/Alcohol Policy

Anyone suspected of being impaired by drugs or alcohol or smelling of alcohol will not be able to participate in the snowmobile tour. Refunds will be at our discretion. Anyone endangering themselves, others or the environment, disturbing the peace of other guests with profanity, vulgarity or just plain rudeness will also be returned to the office.
